Parasyte
Parasyte (Japanese: 寄生獣) is a seminal masterpiece of "Sci-Fi Horror" and "Biological Thriller" created by the visionary Hitoshi Iwaaki. Originally serialized in the late 80s and 90s, the series remains a timeless pillar of the medium, celebrated for its philosophical depth and its unflinching exploration of the human condition. It is a narrative that uses the "Alien Invasion" trope as a scalpel to dissect themes of environmentalism, the food chain, and what truly separates humans from "monsters." The 2014 anime adaptation, Parasyte -the maxim-, successfully introduced its hauntingly relevant questions to a new generation of global fans.
The story follows Shinichi Izumi, a sensitive high schooler whose life is irrevocably changed when a parasitic alien spore fails to seize his brain, instead maturing in his right hand. This entity, which Shinichi names Migi, possesses high intelligence but lacks human emotion or morality. Forced into a reluctant and life-saving symbiosis, the two must navigate a hidden war where parasites have successfully infiltrated human society to feed. As Shinichi and Migi clash and eventually synchronize, the boundary between their identities begins to blur, forcing Shinichi to confront the hardening of his own heart in the face of brutal survival.
